What the heck is Project Groot?

August 20, 2010 | 6:57 PM | By pete | In General

One of the frustrating things about this blog is that I usually can't blog about anything I'm working on until it's up - and at that point there's not always a lot to blog about because everyone can just go and use the thing that we've launched rather than reading about it here.

Well, I'm making a (slight) change to this policy about one project we have going on right now.  Avid followers of my status (..or follower...or..well, my mom) will have noticed that I've posted a little bit about our latest initiative here: Project Groot.

So what is Project Groot? Like most things I work on, I can't really tell you much until it's out, but I can tell you the following:

- it's a bunch of projects that all work together

- collectively, these projects are a huge expansion to one of our most popular on-line concoctions

- it's a chance to play with some of the more cutting-edge technologies out there in the digital space

- you'll see Groot-related releases (twigs?) coming in over the next few months and into next year

So, let the rampant speculation begin.  The poster with the most outlandish rampant speculation may get a digital no-prize.  Just saying.

Project Groot is where Marvel Staffers make the ultimate attempt to go green by splicing their DNA with that of a tree. If someone needs to make a photocopy, they just shave a little off and make their own paper. If they need a pencil, they can stick a piece of graphite into their own finger. You get the picture.

I really hope Project Groot wasn't the redesign of the site, because if it took four months to mess it up so badly I hesitate to ask how long its going to take to restore it.
