I'm back from Dragon*Con and it was a whirlwind 5 days of amazing costumes, good friends, and an overwhelming love for everything Marvel. Every staff member I dealt with was extermely helpful from picking up my badge to securing me a press spot for the parade.
I want to send a huge thank you to Allen from the SuperHeroCostumingForum, who not only directed the largest Marvel gathering at Dragon*Con, but also helped me get all the model releases signed. Plus a thank you to every costumer and cosplayer who wore a Marvel costumer and took a moment to stop at a gathering. I'm still in awe of the care and love you all put into your costumes! Please keep them coming!
On to the recap!
I arrived Thursday, and within a few hours of even the convention beginning, I saw costumes popping up.
Friday started the insanity with the phenominal Thor group (you might remember from Megacon). Yaya Han also tagged along in her Sif!
Later in the day was the Avengers & Villains gathering which had me clicking away at some of the more obscure villains! For the first part, the villains and Aveners were split up but then in the 2nd part, the came together for a giant battle VS shot.
-----
Saturday started with the annual parade, where the Super Hero Cosmtuing Forum and the Captain America USO Girls gathered to walk.
That afternoon was filled with the X-Men Shoot.
At the same time, on the other side of the convention was the Swimsuit shoot.
Later that evening, over 50 costumers gathered for the immense Captain America USO Girls photo shoot. There were over 30 USO and USO girls, plus Captain Americas, the Howling Commandos, a Howard Stark, and more movie related costumes! The gathering was such a hit, they're talking possibly an outing for NYCC next month!
At about the same time, the Deadpool group met to grab some photos too. And while they were congregated, Daniel Way, the writer on Deadpool, made a stop by, surprising the costumers!
------
Sunday was the immense Marvel Universe Shoot. Shortly before the craziness began, a small group of Fantastic Four costumers gathered, including The Watcher, Galactus and Super Skrull, for a quick photo shoot.
As the Marvel shoot was about the begin, the skys opened upon us and had costumers running to shelter from the rain. Thankfully it stopped long enough for everyone to get up on the stairs and allowed all the photographers to grab their photos! There were so many costumers this year, that they wrapped up the entire staircase and exploded out. A sight to be seen!
I even stepped into a shot to get my shot with everyone!
As the shoot began to end, everyone was suprised as Stan Lee made his way to the photo shoot. He took a few minutes to pose with the costumers and George Perez, who's a regular at the SCF events. Thanks again to Stan the Man, who really made the weekend complete!
Before we dashed away, myself and the other photographers grabbed shots of as many costumers as we could!
-----
Phew! So thanks again to every Marvel costumer and cosplayer this weekend! The weekend was made because of all of you!
For all the photos, swing over to our Dragon*Con 2011 Cosplay & Costuming Gallery!
Stay tuned for tomorrow for PART 2!
