Cosplay Recap from the Heroes & Villians: The Comic Book Art of Alex Ross Exhibit

    February 1, 2013 | 1:07 PM | By jstephens | In General

Marvelites! I've returned with all your 2013 Cosplay & Costuming news.

A month or so ago, I swung up to the Norman Rockwell Museum for the special opening of the Alex Ross exhibit, Heroes & Villians: The Comic Book Art of Alex Ross. The show was a stunning presentation of Ross's work from childhood to recent pieces, including Marvels from 1994.

Along with a few friends, we showed up in costumes, and had the chance to meet the man of the hour, Alex Ross.

The show is up till February 24, so make sure you take your friends and family to see this once in a lifetime exhibit.

For more information, check out nrm.org/alexross/

The Museum has prepared a trailer of the event that you can watch here, plus a special video from the exhibition opening, available here!

A huge thanks to the museum for the experience!

    -----

Stay tuned for more cosplay & costuming!

    Marvel.com’s Second Annual Costoberfest

    September 25, 2012 | 4:59 PM | By jstephens | In General

Cosplayers & costumers, we here at Marvel.com are always super appreciative and constantly in awe of your costumes, time and time again. Our first annual Costoberfest was an immense hit, so in honor of the time and effort you’ve put toward the Marvel fandom as well as the costuming & cosplay community, we will celebrate you throughout the month of October. For 31 days, we will highlight cosplayers & costumers through profiles, news articles, events and more! Plus you all get your chance to participate; here’s how!

Every day, starting October 1, we will pick a cosplayer or costumer to profile on Marvel’s Facebook and Twitter. If you’re interested in possibly being spotlighted, send in the photographs* of yourself to: cosplay@marvel.com

Feel free to submit as an individual or group, but remember only Marvel cosplay & costumes will be accepted. Marvel’s use of all photos are governed by the Marvel.com Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Besides profiles, I’ll post articles on my blog--marvel.com/cosplay—how cosplay has grown; some spotlights on community members; galleries from photographers from around the world; events you can attend; and a basic FAQ.

Plus, all throughout the week of New York Comic Con, we’ll have tons more cool things for you!

So remember to stop by Marvel.com, plus Marvel’s Facebook and Twitter every day for the month of October to celebrate in everything cosplay & costuming!

    Cosplay & Costuming Recap: Dragon*Con 2012

    September 17, 2012 | 5:17 PM | By jstephens | In General

I'm back from Dragon*Con and it was amazing on so many levels, especially with the Marvel Universe Gathering having over 300 costumers AND a wedding! Every year, Dragon*con is a good way to end a summer with stellar costumes, good friends and an overwhelming love for everything Marvel.

For this year's recap, I'm going to go backward as Sunday's Marvel Universe gathering was the biggest of all time, plus had one of the most talked about events of the weekend: the wedding between Northstar & Kyle.

    On to the recap!

    -----

Sunday, as usual, was the BIG DAY, with the Marvel Universe Gathering AND the wedding of the year. Brian Parsley and his longtime partner George Lewis recreated the cover of Astonishing X-Men #51, where Northstar gets married to his partner Kyle.

You can watch a video of the wedding here.

Saturday continued the insanity with the Spider-Man Universe gathering, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our wall-climbing friend! Plus, later that day was the Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers group.

Friday started the action with the Avengers Assemble gathering, where Stan Lee made a surprise entrance!

    -----

Besides all the large and amazing gatherings, there were Marvel costumes to be seen and heard throughout the entire weekend. Here's even more photos for your enjoyment!

    -----

PLUS. I debuted my Captain Marvel Cosplay at Dragon*con to some excitement!

And for all Marvel Cosplay & Costuming photos from Dragon*con, swing over to our Marvel.com Gallery!

    -----

I want to send a huge thank you to Allen and the entire crew from the SuperHeroCostumingForum, who are the brains and muscles for the gatherins, but also always help me with the model releases. Plus a thank you to every costumer and cosplayer who wore a Marvel costumer and took a moment to stop at a gathering. I'm still in awe of the care and love you all put into your costumes! Please keep them coming!

    -----

As October is quickly approaching, stay tuned to my blog this week for news on Marvel's 2nd Annual Octoberfest!

Cosplay & Costuming Recap: San Diego Comic-Con 2012

    July 26, 2012 | 12:52 PM | By jstephens | In General

We survived Comic-Con 2012 and in the process gave you hours upon hours of live coverage, the COOLEST announcements and over 450 photos of everything Marvel comics, movies, video games and toys! Marvel Live rocked hard, plus this year my fellow photographer Nicole Ciaramalla joined me in helping cover! Now on to all the good stuff!

We had FOUR Cosplay & Costuming events on the Marvel booth this year, and each one was a huge success.

First up on Thursday was the Avengers Vs. X-Men Cosplay Photo Op!

    ------

On Friday, we surprised the crowd and the cosplayers themselves with a small gathering on the stage who had the chance to pose with the one and only Stan Lee!

    ------

Though our biggest surprise, held on Saturday afternoon, was during the Iron Man 3 Kids Costuming event, where we had children from the ages of 2-14 pose on stage for a change to receieve a signed poster by Robert Downey Jr. With over 35 kids dressed in all types of Iron Man costumes, Robert Downey Jr himself appeared on stage to WOW pretty much everyone.

    -----

Finally, Saturday evening, we held our annual SDCC Costume Contest, and this year it was sponsored by ®KÀ™ by Cirque du Soleil®! They awarded the Grand Prize winner an amazing package including a two Nights stay in a Grand King Room at the MGM Grand, Dinner for 2 at any MGM owned restaurant, two VIP Tickets to KÀ and a KÀ Giftbag!

First place with the hydrolic powered Iron Man costumer, with 2nd to Storm, 3rd to the Gender-Swapped Avengers group and 4th to Iron Fist!

    -----

Plus, throughout the weekend, we saw some amazing costumes at the booth and at gatherings all over the convention center!

    -----

And, have some more photos shots throughout the weekend!

    ------

I want to give a big thanks to my Marvel SDCC Crew! I love you guys!

Thanks to all the cosplayers and costumers who stopped by the booth for our events or even to just say hi! I love meeting and seeing each one of you!

For EVEN MORE photos head over to our San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Gallery!
