Chapter 17
It was very rarely Grant Mari got angry over something. I had known him since he was a kid and all through that time until I had left the Shi’ar Empire behind to live in Asgard I had never known Grant to show anger.
‘It’s bad enough with it being Raven and now Vulcan?!’ he snapped angrily once I had set him and his wife Sophie free.
‘You’re welcome Grant’ I said, in an almost equally angry voice but I kept a level head.
It wouldn’t do good to snap at him and I could understand why Grant was so angry.
‘You knew that you’d experience stuff like this when you became Emperor’ I went on.
‘Yeah but I wasn’t thinking about the fact that you’d end up having to rescue me too Guinevere!’
My lips tightened in anger and hurt.
‘Actually, it was me that rescued you Grant’ Loki corrected him firmly, seeing the hurt and angered look on my face, ‘if I were you, I’d show a little more respect from now on. We might just leave you in Vulcan or Raven’s clutches next time.’
Grant remembered who he was talking to and quickly apologised. He was still mad though.
‘You have my thanks though Guinevere’ said Sophie, trying to sooth things down between us.
I was grateful and nodded to her in thanks. Grant just grumbled.
‘Now then; let’s see what we should do with Vulcan’ said Loki, changing the subject.
Chapter 18
Father was brought into the War Room in a special cage, flanked by Gladiator and Magcat (mother’s clone). If father made any move to attack, the cage would counter his attacks onto himself. The amount of tension in the room was understandable giving the circumstances.
‘So; this is your idea of trying to silence me Guinevere?’ father sneered at me.
‘Keep talking Vulcan and she will silence you' Magcat growled at him.
Father snorted but said nothing.
‘What do you want then Vulcan?’ I asked him, arms folded.
I then remembered something; this wasn’t my job anymore, it was Grant’s. Then I remembered something more. Grant was D’Ken’s son. If Vulcan ever found out about that…
‘Grant; I need a word with you.’
He looked very surprised upon hearing this but followed me out the War Room door.
‘Don’t tell him’ I whispered very quietly to Grant when I knew we were out of ear shot.
‘Don’t tell Vulcan what?’
‘That you’re D’Ken’s son' I answered, even though I knew that it was something he was ready to keep quiet about anyway.
‘What do I do Guinevere?’ he asked, his voice quivering slightly.
I hadn’t meant to frighten Grant.
‘Do what you think is right but whatever you do Grant, don’t mention D’Ken. I don’t want anything to happen to you and Sophie, even if you’re still mad at being captured by Vulcan. As for what we’re going to do with him, that’s your job now and not mine.’
‘I thought about putting him in that prison. That special prison near that neutron star a few light years away. The prison that can neutralise Vulcan’s powers and anyone else that comes to help him get out. It’ll be a very long while before he can breakout of that’ Grant replied readily.
I nodded. That’s what I would’ve suggested to him if Grant couldn’t find anywhere else to put Vulcan. I just hoped that Grant was right that Vulcan wouldn’t be able to get out of there in a long time to come.
