    Chapter 9

‘Are you alright Emerald?’ I asked as I hurried over to him.

    Emerald managed a weak smile.

    Perfectly sound Guinevere.

Looked at Emerald and shook my head.

‘You’re not “fine” Emerald. I’ll try and fix you up as best I can.’

‘I could help you know Guinevere.’

The sound of Loki’s voice next to me made me jump. Emerald growled at him angrily.

Back off Loki; I don’t want any of your magic thanks! Emerald snarled.

Loki’s eyes narrowed at Emerald but didn’t argue back.

‘Look; there’s been enough fighting today as it is. Let’s just take a long rest. Emerald needs it more than we do’ I sighed, ‘I’ll go and clean up Emerald as best I can.’

‘What do you want me to do then Guinevere?’

    I chuckled.

‘You can help me Loki by staying out of trouble and looking after Sabrina for me. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the poor thing was hiding underneath our bedcovers during all of this shouting and roaring.’

    Chapter 10

Emerald seemed quite stubborn in not wanting me to help him heal up.

How do you think I managed to heal myself after fights before I met Loki? he asked me stubbornly.

He was starting to recover and he looked a bit better than before. Dragons are fast healers but I was afraid that, considering the three day gap between now and round two, I wasn’t going to give in to chances.

‘I know you feel that if you got help from me you'd feel weak Emerald but I don’t like seeing you like this. My mother would’ve had a fit if I told her that I had left a dragon to fend for its self, no matter what it's condition was.’

Emerald chuckled and gave a little smile.

She seems to love dragons that one.

    ‘You’ve no idea Emerald.’

By now, Loki had returned with some healing ointment and handed it to me.

‘How’s Sabrina doing Loki?’ I asked him as I fixed Emerald up.

The dragon flinched slightly at the stinging.

‘She’ll be fine. Luckily she didn’t watch much but looked out the window after it had finished...then quickly hid again afterwards. Glacium scared her she said’ Loki replied with a grim smile.

‘Glacium is enough to frighten any three year old kid. At least Sabrina had sense to hide from him and not come wondering down the stairs to gawk at him.’

Loki detected a hint of anger in my voice and asked about it.

‘I’m angry with the fact that Glacium came here in the first place. He blamed me for this because the last couple of times him and Emerald have fought each other, Dark Vulcana shows up and their fight goes unfinished’ I answered angrily, ‘to be honest though, I just think Glacium was looking for one.’

There was heavy silence between us for a little while before we let Emerald sleep for the rest of the day.

    Chapter 7

I met Loki at the bottom of the stairs.

‘You’re supposed to be upstairs resting Guinevere’ he said when he saw me.

‘Not if that dragon is Glacium.’

We heard a loud thump outside that caused the ground to shake. I heard Emerald howl. To see dragons battling against each other is an amazing sight...at a distance that is.

Glacium clearly had the advantage over Emerald since he was bigger than him by two meters (Emerald was seven feet tall).

    ‘What on Earth-!’

My exclamation was cut short when fire shot through the door. Like I said before, it’s best to keep as far away as possible when dragons are fighting each other. Luckily Loki and I weren’t anywhere near the door when it had been turned into an inferno.

‘I can’t stop the dragons from doing this!’ Loki said angrily, trying to stop them with magic.

‘Let me try Loki’ I suggested.

‘Not unless you really want to end up in pieces Guinevere.’

I gave Loki a firm look.

‘Trust me; I know what I’m doing.’

Before he could stop me any further, I switched on my energy power and went outside.

    Chapter 8

Glacium turned to look at me.

You! You’re the one that caused this fight human! Glacium roared angrily at me.

‘You must be mistaken Glacium’ I said firmly, ‘just because I end up having to turn into my dark side every now and again that interrupts your fights with Emerald, doesn’t mean that I’m responsible for this!’

Glacium snorted. Emerald lay next to him, glaring up at Glacium.

You love that pathetic excuse of a dragon over there? Glacium went on with a scowl, he is not worth noticing.

    Emerald growled weakly in defence.

‘Would you like Dark Vulcana to rise again?’ I warned him.

Was it just my imagination or did Glacium look troubled for a split second? He had met my dark side before and he didn't want to do so again.

Fine then Guinevere. On one condition; once he is fit enough to fight, Emerald must come to me in Jotunheim. Is that clear? Glacium asked the last part to Emerald who nodded weakly in response.

Glacium was satisfied and turned his back to us.

I will give him three days to recover. Then he must come to me. Even if he has not recovered Emerald must come Glacium finished, taking to the air.

    Chapter 5

It took me a week to recover from the tiredness that had suddenly swept over me after we had gotten back from the Shi’ar Empire.

During that time, Loki watched over me. Occasionally Sabrina accompanied him and they’d sit on the chair together. I didn’t know how Sabrina was taking this all in but I did ask Loki since he was able to communicate to her telepathically until she could talk properly and not just in one word sentences.

‘Sabrina says that she hopes that you’d get better soon Guinevere’ Loki told me one day.

Sabrina was sitting next to me. I saw that Sabrina wasn’t paying much attention to us and was glancing out the window of our room.

‘What do you see Sabrina?’ I asked her with a little smile.

Sabrina glanced at me and then over at her father. Loki nodded at her.

‘She says that she sees another dragon coming over’ Loki translated with a frown, ‘but that can’t be right since Emerald is the only dragon here at the moment.’

I blinked in surprise. Either Sabrina had really good eyes or she knew things that I didn’t know. I glanced out the window myself. Sure enough there was a spot in the sky that seemed to be getting bigger and bigger every second. The shape was soon easily recognised as a dragon…but not just any dragon.

    ‘Glacium!’ I exclaimed, shocked.

Loki shot out of the room like an arrow the moment the Ice Dragon’s name had been mentioned. I didn’t know if Sabrina could understand me or not but she seemed to understand Loki when he spoke to her. Now it was my turn.

‘I need you to stay here Sabrina’ I told her, ‘I’m going to see what’s happening.’

Sabrina tilted her head in a questioning way, as if she could understand me but there was something more she wanted to say but didn’t know how to say it my way. At least, that was the impression I got from her.

I envied Loki in the fact that he and Sabrina could communicate to each other so smoothly without trouble and I’d probably have to wait until she was old enough to start talking properly before Sabrina and I could exchange more words together.

‘I’ll be back as soon as I can Sabrina.’

With that I kissed her gently and hurried downstairs after Loki.

    Chapter 6

Glacium landed with a thump outside Loki’s tower that shook the ground. Emerald, who had been sleeping in the throne room, raised his head at the noise and went outside to investigate.

I’m amazed that you hadn’t detected me already before you woke up Emerald. Even I could tell you were taking a little mid-afternoon nap Glacium sneered at him.

    Emerald glared at him.

    What do you want Glacium?

Glacium chuckled…and pounced on him. Emerald howled with rage at the surprise attack and attacked Glacium right back.

    Chapter 3

Loki, Emerald and I re-appeared back in Asgard and at the door of Loki’s tower. The moment the green flame died away, I suddenly collapsed in Loki’s arms.

‘Guinevere?’ Loki asked, alarm in his voice as he tried to steady me to my feet again.

    ‘I’m sorry Loki. I’m just…tired that’s all’ I apologised wearily, ‘it’s the phoenix. Taming it I mean. It’s tiring that’s all.’

He lifted me up into his arms.

    ‘You need rest Guinevere.’

As soon as Loki opened the door though, we were met by surprise by Lady Sif. She was sitting calmly on Loki’s throne holding our daughter Sabrina.

‘Sif? What are you doing here?’ Loki asked her, trying to hide the fact that he was annoyed to see her sitting there.

I came to bring you your daughter back Loki’ she replied, equally annoyed at being addressed like that (she had detected the small annoyance in Loki’s voice).

‘Well, you can hold onto Sabrina for a little longer Sif. As you can see, Guinevere is tired and needs rest right now.’

That was when Lady Sif just noticed my tired form in Loki’s arms and instantly regretted in saying such a thing in front of me.

    ‘I’m sorry Guinevere.’

I gave her a tired smile and rested my head on Loki’s chest. I was in no mood to accept her apology even though I was too ready to do so. Loki accepted it instead and quietly made his way to our room.

    Chapter 4

‘Do you need anything Guinevere?’ Loki asked after putting me in our bed.

I gave him a tired smile.

‘Just a long rest that’s all Loki.’

Loki looked at me, worry on his face. I sighed heavily but gave him a reassuring smile.

‘As I said before Loki; it’s not serious. Trying to keep the phoenix tamed…it’s really tiring after a while. The good thing is, is that it doesn’t seem to be giving me any trouble at the moment.’

    Loki was still unconvinced.

    ‘I’m fine. Trust me.’

‘That’s what you’ll say Guinevere. Then what happens? Dark Vulcana rises again to wreck more havoc’ said Loki, sitting down on a chair next to me and placing his hand on mine.

It was nice that Loki was worried about me but I didn’t want to see him troubled over me.

‘I’ll say if I’m in trouble’ I reassured him.

Loki gave in and kissed my forehead gently before leaving the room.

    Emerald Vs Glacium

    Chapter 1

We watched Vulcan being shipped to the prison he was going to which was somewhere in the Shi’ar Empire. Grant watched him go, glad to be rid of Vulcan for a long while at least.

‘Cheer up Grant. Look on the bright side; at least Vulcan won’t be out for a while’ I reassured him, noticing Grant’s troubled look.

‘It’s just that...well, lI'm just worried about the next time he comes after me or you’ Grant told me quietly.

I understood the fear in Grant better than he thought. It was something that was troubling me at the moment too. As far as I knew, Vulcan didn’t know about Grant and D'Ken.

‘You don’t need to worry about that now Grant’ I reasured him, guessing what was really troubling him.

Grant nodded. He just hoped that that was enough to keep Vulcan off his back for a long time to come.

    Chapter 2

Meanwhile in Jotunheim, Glacium the Ice Dragon was resting...and not the sleeping version either.

Yet another Dark Vulcana incident interrupted our last fight Emerald Glacium thought angrily, you and I will have another rematch sometime and no little light show from that mortal will stop us this time! This time, I’ll finish you off...permanently!

    Chapter 17

It was very rarely Grant Mari got angry over something. I had known him since he was a kid and all through that time until I had left the Shi’ar Empire behind to live in Asgard I had never known Grant to show anger.

‘It’s bad enough with it being Raven and now Vulcan?!’ he snapped angrily once I had set him and his wife Sophie free.

‘You’re welcome Grant’ I said, in an almost equally angry voice but I kept a level head.

It wouldn’t do good to snap at him and I could understand why Grant was so angry.

‘You knew that you’d experience stuff like this when you became Emperor’ I went on.

‘Yeah but I wasn’t thinking about the fact that you’d end up having to rescue me too Guinevere!’

My lips tightened in anger and hurt.

‘Actually, it was me that rescued you Grant’ Loki corrected him firmly, seeing the hurt and angered look on my face, ‘if I were you, I’d show a little more respect from now on. We might just leave you in Vulcan or Raven’s clutches next time.’

Grant remembered who he was talking to and quickly apologised. He was still mad though.

‘You have my thanks though Guinevere’ said Sophie, trying to sooth things down between us.

I was grateful and nodded to her in thanks. Grant just grumbled.

‘Now then; let’s see what we should do with Vulcan’ said Loki, changing the subject.

    Chapter 18

Father was brought into the War Room in a special cage, flanked by Gladiator and Magcat (mother’s clone). If father made any move to attack, the cage would counter his attacks onto himself. The amount of tension in the room was understandable giving the circumstances.

‘So; this is your idea of trying to silence me Guinevere?’ father sneered at me.

‘Keep talking Vulcan and she will silence you' Magcat growled at him.

    Father snorted but said nothing.

‘What do you want then Vulcan?’ I asked him, arms folded.

I then remembered something; this wasn’t my job anymore, it was Grant’s. Then I remembered something more. Grant was D’Ken’s son. If Vulcan ever found out about that…

‘Grant; I need a word with you.’

He looked very surprised upon hearing this but followed me out the War Room door.

‘Don’t tell him’ I whispered very quietly to Grant when I knew we were out of ear shot.

    ‘Don’t tell Vulcan what?’

‘That you’re D’Ken’s son' I answered, even though I knew that it was something he was ready to keep quiet about anyway.

‘What do I do Guinevere?’ he asked, his voice quivering slightly.

I hadn’t meant to frighten Grant.

‘Do what you think is right but whatever you do Grant, don’t mention D’Ken. I don’t want anything to happen to you and Sophie, even if you’re still mad at being captured by Vulcan. As for what we’re going to do with him, that’s your job now and not mine.’

‘I thought about putting him in that prison. That special prison near that neutron star a few light years away. The prison that can neutralise Vulcan’s powers and anyone else that comes to help him get out. It’ll be a very long while before he can breakout of that’ Grant replied readily.

I nodded. That’s what I would’ve suggested to him if Grant couldn’t find anywhere else to put Vulcan. I just hoped that Grant was right that Vulcan wouldn’t be able to get out of there in a long time to come.

    The End

    Chapter 15

‘Get him!’ father shouted angrily at the guards who were holding me.

Even Shi’ar guards were no match for Loki. He advanced towards father, staff raised.

‘This is the bit when I ask you if you’ve got any last words Vulcan’ Loki growled.

It was father’s turn to laugh now.

‘What can you do that I can’t Loki?’

Loki whistled...and the next thing father knew, he was being pinned up against the wall to the point where he could hardly move by Emerald the dragon. The dragon roared angrily in his face.

‘Don’t bother calling for your guards Vulcan’ Loki continued, ‘they’re under a stun spell; they’ll be out for hours yet.’

    Father glared angrily at Loki.

‘Did you know that if I wanted to I could turn up my energy field Loki?’

You won't be fast enough Vulcan Emerald growled dangerously.

Father considered his options...and quietly surrendered.

    Chapter 16

Loki helped me get up of the floor where I had been watching the whole scene take place.

‘You alright Guinevere?’ Loki asked, hugging me.

‘Fine. Thanks Loki’ I replied with a little smile, ‘I was considering turning into Dark Vulcana there for a moment when father had cornered me at the stairs.’

    ‘Don’t even think that!’

I shrugged but I didn’t want to argue with Loki. I was more than grateful that he’d shown up so that I didn’t have to run a risk like that. Who knows what would’ve happened if I had?

What do you want done with this thing Loki? Emerald asked, indicating father (still pinned to the wall by him) and interrupting my chain of thoughts.

‘Let that be for Gladiator to decide Emerald’ Loki replied, letting go of me, ‘judging from what I’ve read in Vulcan’s mind already, it looks as if poor Grant and Sophie are locked up again.’

    Father snarled at him.

‘You never had this much trouble when you were Empress!’ father growled at me.

‘Careful what you say father’ I growled back, ‘Emerald and Loki might not be so generous with you next time you decide to attack me or the Shi’ar Empire.’

Hmm, sounds promising Guinevere said Emerald, giving father a menacing look as he did so.

    Chapter 13

I had reached the foot of the main stairway without any surprises.

This is wrong I thought uneasily, this is so wrong.

I looked around again. No-one was there. Then why was I feeling uneasy? I looked back down the stairway, unsure if I should continue further. All I could easily do once I got out was hurry over to the Imperial Palace’s “garage” I could take one of the travelling jets and use it to get back to Earth and send a stress signal to Loki to come and get me.

Unfortunately, I had pondered over my plan for too long; I was zapped from behind by a familiar energy bolt, causing me to fall down the stairs.

‘I thought you’d try something like this Guinevere’ said father’s voice from the top of the stairs.

I turned to look at him, glaring.

‘You tricked me father’ I snarled.

Father gave me a nasty little smile.

‘I was able to cloak my energy field, making me nearly invisible to you Guinevere.’

So that explained my nervousness before. Father gestured to a group of soldiers standing nearby. They took hold of me.

‘Take her back to her room and guard the door-’ but father was interrupted when a new figure appeared in the hallway, presumably out from nowhere.

I couldn’t see much of his appearance because he was mostly clad in shadow. When the figure stepped out, he was mostly wrapped up in a green hooded cloak which hid his face even more.

    Father scowled at the figure.

‘Can I help you?’ he growled  at the silent figure.

‘I heard you needed someone of my talent around here?’ the figure replied, ‘something to do with the young lady over there?’ he carried on, indicating to me.

    I held my breath.

‘Ah, yes. I nearly forgot about that’ said father.

He indicated to the soldiers holding me.

‘Take Guinevere to her room. You, follow me’ he told the cloaked figure, still eyeing him suspiciously.

    Chapter 14

Somehow, I didn’t struggle. I kept looking at the stranger because I was sure that there was something familiar about his energy patterns. However, I tried not to look at him too much since father seemed suspicious of the stranger.

The guards led me to the middle of the room.

‘Just hold Guinevere there’ the stranger said.

‘Are you sure you can perform this sort of thing?’ father asked him.

A sly smile flickered out from under the shadow of the hood.

‘I’m surprised you’ve not figured out who I am...Gabriel Summers!’

    There was an uneasy silence.

    ‘Reveal yourself!’ father demanded angrily.

Laughter from within the cloak. Then the stranger removed his cloak and the disguise was off.

‘Did you think you could just escape from Asgard and capture Guinevere without thinking that I wouldn’t try and follow you Vulcan?’ Loki asked father.
