AU is the 616U...
It is an alternate reality just like HOUSE OF M and AGE OF APOCOLYPSE
So, this is going to turn out to be one of those, character from an alternate timeline comes to warn 616 about the coming of Ultron, events? I still haven't read this issue. Maybe later today.

I 100% agree with Outbrustz.to see a defeated beaten shaken and unsure Captain América is beyond priceless.I am actually going to get the issue just for that reason.and before the pitch forks and torches come out I like Cap but to see him like that to me shows that he is still Human and not just a soldier.I truly believe him being portrayed like that brings the realism and the reality to this event.even in the end the good guys will win ( personally I hate that ) it shows the heroes being like any real Human put in that situation and that is a strong sense of hopelessness.if it was any other hero than Cap it would not have been as profound and believable.

AU is the 616U... Bendis said, it happens out of the blue.... one day you go to sleep regular, wake up and Ultron now controls the world. the later issues will have flashbacks and back story about HOW it came about... Cap with an eye patch is from another universe that Wolverine and Sue Storms had to create to save the 616 I'm loving the fact that Bendis is not using Marvel's top guns.. they annoy me sometimes it would be great to see Hulk, Rulk, Thor, Hyperion, Blue Marvel, Namor etc just thump it out against a common enemy, but sheesh........ Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine headlining EVERYYYYY event is just boring..

Question - does any one have any idea where AoU is occurring in relation to the current Avengers & New Avengers stories??
I'm not even sure if it is in the 616 Universe, but if it is, it will probably have time travel in it by the time it wraps up because I can't see Marvel having a totally destroyed New York city and perhaps the world, in their primary universe. This issue was written at least a year ago because I remember reading a preview of it some time before A vs X. Spidey is talking like Pete and not Doc Ock, Emma has her telepathy and Cap is wearing his pre A vs X uniform. I'm wondering how they will explain the following issues and tie ins, particularly the Superior Spider-Man and Ock being Spidey. As for Hawkeye killing, well, I look at it like Walking Dead scenario. Civilization appears to be gone and the bad guys are surviving by giving up heroes to Ultron. Hawkeye doesn't have the luxury to wound, especially when he has no backup going up against armed men to rescue a high value prisoner.

Brilliant! That would make so much sense. Maybe this AoU earth is the one that's trying to crash into 616 earth in the New Avengers series... do I dare dream of such continuity? (So much for me waiting patiently - ha!)

I'd like to know as well, because Emma Frost is in white, and reading minds, where as in X-Men now she is doing neither of those. I think this first issue was in an ulternate universe and they are going to send Ultron to the 616 in the later issues, because none of this makes sense with the current books. There has to be something else going on.
