Read issue 6, not bad, and I have to say some of the Braddock Academy kids tend to be jerks, namely Kid Britain

i like the concept even of its a rip off.  my issue is the villain. Arcade?  LOL.  doesnt have the power or connections to pull this off.  Please dont let another Cube or some lame idea that the Grandmaster is behind the scenes really running things and arcade is just here.  at least using GM would fit his style and fit the situation but no reason to be behind the scenes.  but arcade,  did i say LOL yet.

I think what will eventually be revealed here is that, using existing established Marvel Tech (like power inhibiting Nanites) he is using a great deal of Mysterio's old bag of Tricks to appear more powerful than he is.  And of course the fairly inexperienced kids just don't know any better.

Arcade has always had an insane ammount of money and there for connections (though it's never quite explained how) I mean he's made murder worlds often enough, without success, so he must be bankrolled somewhere (probably selling less impressive murder tech on the black market to want to be super villains and heroes).

And if you figure he is a bit of a luaghing stock in the villain community, nothing makes people stop laughing quite as much as dead kids.  So, in that, one imagines he has a motivation here, to be taken seriously (like so many sociopathic monsters in real life) and it can be assumed he will be taken seriously after this.

I am guessing he will be selling tapes of this to various villain fetishists in the MU as well, which is agian totally his style.

So, yeah, I think this is appropriate for Arcade all told, we're just not used to seeing him successful, though again a lot of that might be that his marks are who they are, and not that he has somehow gotten better at this job.

Really, I highly doubt this will be a "only one walked away" kind of scenerio.  I was sad to see Mettle die, but I guess that's the cost of the book, someone real had to die that first issue, and well, he kind of got the short straw there.  I figure you'll next see some deaths of the "created for this book" characters (though who knows one of those guys might get to get out.  Before everyone realizes that they can fight Arcade in a differnt way.

I'm going to go in a different direction here. If there is another thread which covers the topic I am about to bring up, my apologies. I enjoyed issue #1 - and was genuinely shocked by the death of of one of the characters (I'll not spoil it). For those who say that this isn't a "Hunger Games" ripoff, that is like saying that Deep Space Nine is not a Babylon 5 ripoff (JMS pitched his show to Paramount years before DS9 and they balked on it).

Anyhow, before I read issue #2, we had the horrible tragedy in Newtown, CT, and I came away not enjoying a comic book whose theme is the death of teenaged characters.. for our entertainment. Comics, entertainment as a whole, should offer some measure of escapism. The timing here, for me anyway, is too much. I ws cringing while reading the story involving that young Deathlockette girl, and I found myself physically sick at the thought that she will be killed in upcoming issues.

I've set this series aside. Perhaps I will pick up the back issues later on, but for now, I don't enjoy reading about the deaths of minors - even fictional minors with super powers.

It's not a Hunger Games Rip Off. Hunger Games ripped off Battle Royale.  Anyway I had this idea for Marvel years ago and I'm glad they read the forums to take all our ideas.  When you sign up for a Marvel account your ideas become property of the House of Ideas.  So far Marvel has used my idea for a Marvel literary classics, Punisher in space, Ironman going cosmic, and more. But it's all good I just wish they would be open to pitches from the fans than just getting our ideas from the forums. But whatever its cool with me.

I've always wanted this at least they are granting fan wishes.

This Murderworld is perhaps similar to the Danger Room when it comes to hard light constructions, but without the safeties, and that the Arcade the young heroes were facing was a avator that Arcade was using

So what if its a rip off on Hunger Games?   Any way if you read Avengers Academy I still say its worth a read. Don't fall into all the INTERNET negative fans.  Hopeless isn't Loeb..far from it.  And more importantly Cammi from Annihilation is in this book too.  Along with some Runaways.  People ask what happened to certain characters..Marvel brings them back..& still complaining..Darkhawk hasn't done much yet..and again so far the concept is fresh and different for a marvel comic. Good first issue.

I will admit Darkhawk is what I want to see in action...Cammi is sounding good also. I have to see if I have any extra dollars left to follow this.
