You guy’s nailed it on the head. Thor is the god of thunder and lightning; those elements are his to command regardless of Mjolnir. I remember back when you all tried to break this down for D.W. Tet, buddy - you had the patience of a saint during that exchange, lol. As did the rest of you. It's a shame you weren't provided the same courtesy.

Any current lingering doubt of Thor's natural powers are, much like Foxy said, likely rooted more in the old symbiotic relationship Thor had back when his human alter ego still needed to slam down a cain to access his powers. That time has come and gone. Thor is Thor now. He doesn't need to use his hammer to access that which he already is. His character concept has evolved, and he is now a full time God of Thunder.

If anyone says Thor has no natural power over weather just give them a dose of historical linkage:

Granted you’ll still probably run into the old “why does he even have the hammer then” bit on the boards. But really that part is also pretty straight forward- his hammer simply makes him better. It amplifies his attacks, it lets him fly at light speed, and it greatly enhances his ability to manipulate energy.

These are some of my favorite scans that break down Mjolnir at work, making Thor better at what he does:

Fine tuning Thor’s self-created elemental attacks-

Enhancing the power of Thor’s self-created elemental attacks-

Manipulating existing elemental forces on cosmic level-

Absorbing existing energy on a cosmic level-

    Blocking attacks-

And when the big guns need to be busted out…

    Big-badda-boom God-Blast ftw, lol!

Excellent issue...this proves without a doubt..Thor can summon his weather powers without his hammer. And he was very precise with it also.

It had already been proven numerous times.

Guys...anyone here remember those arguments with Dragynwulf as to whether Thor could call the lightning without mjolnir? Well ummm, yeah... SCOREBOARD! What say you DWulf?

    Nice.  This made me laugh.

Yeah....Thor could only call upon lighning when he he was touching Mjolnir? or "close to" Mjolnir? or something like that?

Naaa...that guy's never going to admit he was wrong.  Imo, he's too Egocentric in his beliefs........and besides, he's busy doing some more Marvel PR....defending Slott right now on the Spidey Message Boards.

    I can't stand Jake Olsen.

This statement is a little unfair given how very few examples there are of Thor useing anything but strength without Mjolnir.  So far there has only been like 2 examples since 1962 provided by folks who "know the character well."  Don't be so quick to put down other readers.

Entirely correct!  I stand corrected, I just reread the issue at hand, and it is a great example of a non-specially powered Thor using lightning without Mjolnir.

Thank you for pointing out my error.

I love Rune-powered Thor by the way, but what I mean by " cheating" is that that is far above where writers generally put his power level (which was exactly the point).  He's pretty much just rewriting reality as Rune-powered Thor, which is not how I generally think of the character.
