Was really hoping Marvel Studios had have confirmed T'Challa and Shuri as the brother and sister duo appearing in the upcoming Avengers sequel, instead of Pietro and Wanda.  Oh well.  Still wishing...

    Iron Man: But......it is...
Xavier: It would have to be unanimous.
    Mr. Fantastic: Those in favor?
    Iron Man: T'Challa...
Panther: I'm telling you now: End this. Walk away from this table and go home.
    Iron Man: Wow, T'Challa--

How many Americans (including myself) complain about DC inventing FAKE American cities called "Metropolis" and "Gotham"? I mean, really! The nerve! How DARE they incinuate that America has two cities by those names! Besides, it must have cost at least $500 trillion dollars to make real American cities (or Australian...see Superman Returns) look like fictional cities.

The very idea of creating a fictional country called Wakanda sounds...insane after re-reading the above. I'm sure that any African in any African country would be offended and insulted at the idea of a modern, successful and bustling African nation. And an African super-hero??? Oh, talk about being offended! Yep! "How dare those Americans talk of an African superhero! We Africans should NOT have any superheroes!"

    Logic. Yep.

Um...along those lines of logic, I need change for a $20 bill. Can someone give ten $5 bills in exchange for this $20?

Im thinking that Marvel dosent want to risk a racially specific character at the box office. Mabey in Phase 2 or 3 whatever that is, when we get to the later Avengers storylines they could introduce him there, and seeing how well hes recieved , decide weather or not to do a solo movie.

As far as reverse racism( i dont like that term because it seemingly justifys one side of a racist argument), ive caught a few episodes of the Black Panther aniamted show on BET, it comes off slighlty condescending, but i coudlnt aruge agaisnt the fact that most programs have at least some hint of that to a degree, depending on who the audience is.

As far as marvel argument that its too big to film, give me a break, we got Asgard in Thor, and Thor didnt really make too much $ from what ive herd, it was more of a benchmark twords Avengers. Some people freaked out at Heimdale being black, but overall that really didnt affect anything.

Mabey instead wel get a Luke Cage cameo in an Captain America sequil that could lead to a spinoff movie or show.

It might be that the general movie audience isint mature enough yet to handle an all black hero affair, despite Blade doing well, that hid behind the Vampire fad that was going strong at the time.

Sigh..reverse racism.. some things never change... just the fact that he is an african monarch should not be an issue, after all, we readily accept monarch's of any other nation (anyone complain about Namor?).  Also the title Black Panther for the comics predated the revolutionary group of the same name in the late 60's.

With that said, real racism is when Marvel says they cannot create a fictional african kingdom though they had no problem creating other worlds/realms as they did with Asgard and also stated that audiences wouldn't go see a black lead character (Guess Blade and Blade II didn't make any money).

Perhaps 100 years from now BP may finally get his due... sigh..sure miss Dwayne McDuffie

This forum is for discussing BLACK PANTHER comics or comic apperances. Not the movies. I'll move this to the appropriate forum :)

I wish there was a way for my message to make its way to all eyes in the world.  However, I know that the best I can get is here in the forums.  I think I know why Marvel is delaying any talks of a Black Panther film:  public ignorance.

Back in circa June-July 2012, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, came under heavy fire from T’Challa fans for his comments in response to why the African king’s film came unannounced in place of the “highly” anticipated Ant Man & Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) films.  By him saying that the film would be too difficult to produce because of creating the fictional nation of Wakanda from the ground up proves much more difficult than the settings of Thor 1 & 2 (Asgard & space) and GOTG (space), he all but threw himself under a massive bus.

That excuse doesn’t quite address the real issues the production may/will face.  There is no issues with every fan that knows the ins and outs of T’Challa’s lore.  However, the average non-comic book reader is totally oblivious to that lore.  Most of them believe that he is a firm representation of the old & new Black Panther Party.  HISTORY ALERT!!!

All three Black Panther entities have absolutely no connections with each other.  The comic hero debuted in July of 1966.  The party debuted Oct later that year.  Did Stan Lee and Jack Kirby really coerce with Party founder, Huey P. Newton?  Highly unlikely. As an additional note, the Newton foundation publicly condemns all activities involving the new Party for their brash and racist tactics.  Most anti-Panther Party people associate them with the comics and will therefore never support and allow their kids to watch anything with T’Challa in it.  Maybe another reason he didn’t make the cut for the new Avengers Assemble cartoon?  Possibly so.

If my message could make its way to Marvel Studios, my thought would be:  I understand the issues you face, Kevin & company.  I empathize with you implicitly.  Want a simple solution to your problem?….. Re-title the Hero’s name to just “Panther” and his possible future solo tile as “Panther the Perilous”.

Look, I don’t have a problem with the Black Panther name, but I do want him included in the cinematic universe and I want his character to be a successful box office hit.  Make the change; save the cheerleader, save the Panther.

    Iron Man: But......it is...
Xavier: It would have to be unanimous.
    Mr. Fantastic: Those in favor?
    Iron Man: T'Challa...
Panther: I'm telling you now: End this. Walk away from this table and go home.

So Marvel's latest position is that a Black Panther movie would be 'too hard" to bring to screen in terms of depicting Wakanda yet we can depict Asgard??!!! And another comment they made was that would be hard for people to be interested in an "all black cast".  So we have had a black president 2 terms in a row but they still think a BP movie would be a turnoff.. officially not buying anymore Marvel comics
